The Lion Hotel Berriew

The Lion Hotel Berriew

Nestled in the beautiful Mid-Wales village of Berriew, Montgomeryshire is the Lion Hotel & Restaurant. Built 400 years ago in the 17th century, the Lion Hotel & Restaurant was originally a coaching inn and pub for builders working on the local church, St Beuno’s. Sitting alongside the idyllic setting of the church and the River Rhiew, the old black & white, timbered front building reflects the agricultural past of the village tucked between Newtown and Welshpool.

The new owners, architect and interior designer Michael Davis and his partner world-renowned artist Andrew Logan, refurbished the exterior to its original form while creating a plush, metropolitan interior. Locals and visitors can meet and enjoy the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere that our restaurant and lounge bar have to offer. Work of Andrew Logan, including mirrored portraits, watercolours, and mirrored walls, adorn the inside of the Lion.

Berriew, winner of the ‘Best Kept Village’ award, welcomes travellers from all parts of the globe, at the Lion Hotel & Restaurant. Visitors to the area can benefit from our fully operational hotel lounge bar, and restaurant.

We have spent today risk assessing how we could adopt 2 metre social distancing throughout The Lion Hotel & Restaurant. It is achievable but obviously at a largely reduced capacity. There would be some screening to be placed in certain areas also.
We are looking initially at having 9 dining tables seating in between 2/8 persons. Awaiting guidelines on size of groups. There would be a one way system for entering and leaving the premises. The accommodation access would also be a one way system. Looking for a little feedback. Who would feel comfortable returning to stay or dine with us with all the new strict measures in place ?
